The Arab Image Foundation turns 30 in 2027! Your contribution is key to our future longevity
Dear colleagues and friends,
Since the founding of the Arab Image Foundation in 1997, we have put our efforts into cultivating curiosity about photographic practices from the region. Our distinct engagement with photographic collections simultaneously involves research-based art practice and preservation techniques, informs new methods and interrogations, and generates new knowledge of photographic practices.
To date, the Arab Image Foundation is the custodian of over 500,000 photographic objects dating back to the mid-19th century and taken by professional, amateur, and anonymous photographers from the Southwest Asian and North African regions, and their diasporas in Latin America (Mexico, Argentina), Africa (Senegal), and Europe.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we want to acknowledge the immense collective effort that has ensured our longevity. Weathering the political, social, and economic turmoils of the last decades was no small feat, yet we remain anchored in Beirut and continue to work towards maintaining spaces – physical and intellectual – where photography deepens and enriches our knowledge of and relations with our locality and the world.
To continue fulfilling our aspirations during this critical time, we look to you for your generous support. Your donations will directly sustain our facility, programs, as well as our preservation and digitization work, giving access to countless images that help us appreciate and understand, but also challenge our histories, cultures, and societies.
